work in progress

I.

They met each other right out of school
got hitched up like a couple of fools
didn't know the price they'd pay
when they went their seperate ways
ohhh he regrets it to this day

Lived off charity from a couple of friends
she nagged him like an old war hen
ohhh he... didn't want a job
getting high off the things he robbed
until... she took a final stand
and left him,
just gone to another man

II.

He walked down the dim lit street
trying to keep upon his feet
oh he could barely speak
Thinkin' 'bnout the words she left behind
took a needle to clear his mind
all because of... the cursed note
it was all there in what she wrote

Ended up on a dirty avenue
Realizin that his heart was blue
Ohhh... he drank some wine
extended out his hand
"brother can you spare a dime?
You see, shes gone to a better man..."

III.

She ended up a doctor's wife
couldn't have dreamt for a better life
got handy with the kitchen knife
entertained the dinner guests
never had a moments rest
n' wondered... if this was best

She saw him on the street one day
didn't quite know what to say
he whispered "baby it's okay"
he turned away, got on the bus
Oh she missed his gentle touch
all because she ran
and left him,
for a better man...
