cheating on solitaire
by Melanie Haupt

glass of wine, stale cigarette
silent companions
as i sit in this chair
in this our old room
cheating on solitaire
thinking of you

phone has been silenced
i forget whether it's because
i didn't pay the bill
or because you were my last friend
so i'm cheating on solitaire
thinking of you

once you told me we'd fight life's battles
side by side
here i am in this room...

saw you on the street today
you've gotten so thin
i see now that you had no right
to take that (altitude) with me
...
fresh pack of smokes
full glass of wine
still cheating on solitaire
