"Be In' Wind"
by Ashley Alvis

Remember an August day ...
not a cloud, no breeze,
no tree swaying,
not a leaf flutters,
no wind at all, except
from the fly you flinch away.
But it's a bright, beautiful day,
greens vibrant, sky serene,
insects singing; birds fly,
  and child-like, you too,
        would soar today,
and so you run, full-tilt,
and there is no wind, ... and yet,
still you feel your sweating skin fanned.
Sure, if you almost brushed a friend
they'd feel your wind in passing;
but that's behind you, unfelt.
No, There is no wind for you to feel,
no air in motion; and yet, ...
starting to sprint you feel it,

and you know it IS! ...

YOU who are the WIND.
